Austin Bridge & Road, as part of the joint venture Southgate Constructors, designed and constructed this $837 million design-build project. The SH 183 corridor, located in the western portion of Dallas County and the eastern portion of Tarrant County, was one of the most highly congested roadways in the region and had retained its basic configuration since the mid-1970s. Although adjacent development had increased, the roadway's capacity had remained largely unchanged. Southgate Constructors designed and constructed 28 miles of controlled access, toll-managed lanes on existing major urban highways SH 183, SH 114, and SH Loop 12 in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. This project included the full reconstruction of 14.8 miles of SH 183, 10.7 miles highway widening of SH 114 and 2.3 miles of SH Loop 12, five direct connectors with general-purpose and managed lanes, and the reconstruction of SH 114 and SH 183 interchange.
