Austin and its partners recently completed the Tom Bradley International Terminal [TBIT] program. The largest project ever awarded in Los Angeles, it provides a significant architectural gateway to international passengers entering the country. Engineering News Record recently named the Tom Bradley TBIT as the Best Project in its Airports/Transit category. The project was delivered 100% Airside at this 24 x 7 Operating Facility.
The program was awarded in two phases of the West Gate and Core, and it consisted of 300,000 square feet of renovation and 1,000,000 square feet of new construction. West Gate opened 15 gates, with nine gates to accommodate Airbus A380 aircraft, vertical transportation, baggage handling systems, central utility plant, extensive underground utilities and apron paving. Working closely with all stakeholders, the team successfully implemented Lean Construction Practices, robust Building Information Modeling, integrated Phasing of Tie-ins to Existing Utilities, achieved LEED Gold Certification and the award of the CAL Sharp Safety Award from OSHA for this first time on a project of this size.
