The Terminal Redevelopment and Improvement Program at Charleston International Airport will be completed in phases to provide a first-class facility that echoes the quality, culture and beauty of Charleston, the Lowcountry and the state of South Carolina. Austin will be working with joint venture partner Hitt Construction to provide construction management for the program. Concourse B will be extended to add five new gates, bringing the airport’s total gates to 15. Both Concourses A and B will be renovated to provide updated customer amenities. The parking apron will be expanded to provide more room for aircraft around the concourses. The rental car companies will move from Baggage Claim to a new facility at the northwest end of the terminal building. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Consolidated Checkpoint will provide a single, central security checkpoint for passengers. In addition to increased efficiency, passengers will notice more shopping and dining amenities post-security. With the addition of the TSA Consolidated Screening Checkpoint, the Central Hall will be renovated to provide a single point of exit from the secure area. This space will be highlighted by floor-to-ceiling windows to give passengers and visitors expansive views of the airfield. Concession and retail space will also be available.
