The Sheila and Walter Umphrey Pedestrian Bridge is the main form of pedestrian access to Baylor’s McLane Stadium from campus. An average of 30,000 patrons park on campus or in the city of Waco walk across the bridge on game days. This 760 feet long, 35 feet wide bridge was constructed from barges and built on a curve with structural steel Y columns and steel girders. Each of the four in-water Y columns are founded on two, five-foot diameter drilled shafts, descending approximately 40 feet to bedrock. The second bridge, at 100 feet long and 12 feet wide, is a prefabricated structure that traverses a river inlet to connect the stadium with a tailgating area to the east.
