(DALLAS) Austin Bridge & Road employee-owners working on the DART Red/Blue Platform Extension Project welcomed special visitors on Wed., Aug. 11 at the Mockingbird Station facility.

In the wake of the $1.2B infrastructure bill passed in the Senate on Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg visited the construction site, along with several politicians, state and city officials, and DART representatives.

Buttigieg came to get a close-up look at how the Dallas Area Rapid Transit system is expanding and improving, and to talk about how Dallas can benefit from the bipartisan infrastructure bill he has worked hard to pass.

While at the station, the former U.S. Presidential hopeful witnessed Austin employee-owners (EO) doing what they do best – getting the job done right and done safely! These EOs are currently working on expanding and raising the rail platforms at the station to allow easy wheelchair access to all of the railcars.

The work is part of ABR’s $14.6M package to upgrade five DART platforms located at Cityplace, Mockingbird, Convention Center, Cedars, and 8th & Corinth. With narrow time windows and tight working space, project leaders have had to be creative and flexible with careful planning in order to meet and exceed DART’s expectations.
