SAN ANTONIO - Austin Industrial was awarded the National Safety Merit Award from Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) at the Excellence in Construction Awards on Mar. 16.
The awards recognize companies that exhibit a continued commitment to jobsite safety, and whose safety performance and programs are judged to be exemplary by the ABC National Health and Safety Committee. The 2021 National Safety Excellence Award winners were selected from ABC member firms that achieved Diamond, Platinum and Gold status in ABC’s STEP Safety Management System in 2021. During the selection process, contractors were judged on self-evaluation scores, lost workday case rates, total recordable incident rates, leading indicator use, process and program innovations and video interviews conducted by members of ABC’s National Health and Safety Committee.
Luke Mazur, Director of HSE - Austin Industrial, noted that Austin Industrial has achieved Diamond status the last few years, demonstrating safety as a core value of Austin Industrial employee-owners.
"It is an honor to be recognized by ABC for the National Safety Merit award. It speaks volumes on our industry-leading consistency in safety, with a 5-year average TRIR of 0.25," said Bernard Hewett, President - Austin Industrial. "We have started this year off strong company-wide, working more than 1.8 million hours with zero recordables so far in 2022. Thank you to all Austin employee-owners for their commitment to safety.”
