The project consists of a new 218,908 square foot classroom, meeting room, laboratory and faculty office building for the Computer Science Department. The seven-story Bill and Melinda Gates Computer Science Complex is comprised of two wings joined by an atrium. The 132,771 square foot North wing, named the Dell Computer Science Hall, is located on the site of the existing Taylor Hall. The South wing of the complex is located on the site of the now demolished Chilling Station No. 2.
The interior is a combination of classrooms, research laboratory, faculty and graduate student offices, a 200-seat lecture hall and more than 24 discussion areas and seminar rooms. Large spaces and offices will support undergraduate student organizations, study lounges and project labs.
The project achieved LEED Silver certification.
