This major traffic interchange along Interstate 10 serving Chandler and the east valley cities incorporated reconstruction and widening of the existing Ray Road bridge and bridge approaches, as well as reconstructing existing curbs, sidewalks and medians. New landscaping, irrigation, traffic signals, striping and lighting were also included in the scope of work. Bridge girder placement operations took place during night/non-peak travel times to minimize the impact to freeway traffic.
Public involvement and traffic control were an integral part of the project. I-10 is a major roadway, leading to both residential and commercial properties. Access had to be maintained on both sides of the project at all times. As a result of Austin’s public involvement efforts throughout the 14-month project, several hundred positive responses in the way of letters, phone calls and emails from local citizens and stakeholders were received.
