Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) History

Austin Industries was founded by Charles R.Moore in 1918, but our roots date back to 1899. In 1986, William T. Solomon, Charles Moore’s grandson, established the Austin Industries Employee Stock Ownership Plan, a retirement plan that allows employee-owners to participate in ownership of the company. The ESOP Plan initially transferred 60 percent ownership of the company to its employees at no cost. Solomon also set up a plan for the company to become 100 percent owned by its employees by 2000, which was completed on schedule.

Today, Austin’s more than 9,000 employee-owners are invested in the stewardship of Austin Industries resources, and are currently engaged in projects with a completion value of  $2 billion. Pride in ownership has driven Austin’s continuous growth.
